Challenges in Securing Financial Aid for American Indian Students at Stanford University, 1970-10-28

 File — Box: 235, Folder: 17
Identifier: CAC_CC_026_1_235_17_002
Senator Fred Harris wrote a letter to Chris McNeil at Stanford University, enclosing a letter from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and a section of the Code of Federal Regulations. The Bureau informed Senator Harris that they do not have sufficient copies of the Code of Federal Regulations available for public distribution but provided information on how to obtain it. McNeil had written to Senator Harris expressing concerns about funding for American Indian students at Stanford and difficulties in obtaining scholarships. McNeil emphasized the importance of providing educational grants to American Indian students in need and requested commitments from Bureau offices to support the undergraduates at Stanford. The ultimate goal is to provide funding for all American Indian students to pursue their desired education, as institutions like Stanford have been graduating highly trained professionals who can make a positive impact on reservation communities.
