Title: Concerns Regarding School Attendance and Promotion for Indigenous Student Allan Torralba, 1971-03-18

 File — Box: 235, Folder: 17
Identifier: CAC_CC_026_1_235_17_015
Mrs. Torralba wrote to Senator Harris seeking assistance for her son Allan, who was not promoted to the 7th grade due to excessive absences and misconduct. The family has had prior confrontations with school authorities, and Allan has had minor brushes with the law. Mrs. Torralba has difficulty enforcing regular school attendance due to a permissive atmosphere at home. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is working with the family to improve Allan's school attendance and relationship with school staff. Allan has briefly attended a boarding school but withdrew due to not liking the rules and being away from home. The Comanche County Juvenile Office has also contacted the family regarding Allan's school attendance issues and has scheduled a meeting to address the situation.
