Investigation at Chilocco Indian School: Assault on Federal Officer, 1971-11-08
File — Box: 266, Folder: 23
Identifier: CAC_CC_026_1_266_23_006
The letter from J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to Senator Fred R. Harris addressed an investigation conducted at the Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma. The investigation was based on a complaint from the school's superintendent about a Federal officer being assaulted by students. The officer was attacked while trying to break up a fight between students, and the Assistant United States Attorney declined prosecution, stating it should be handled by the school administration. A group of adults later demanded the officer's termination and reinstatement of suspended students.
