John B. Connally was born in Floresville, Texas in 1917 and had a successful career in law and politics. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, held various government positions, and served as Governor of Texas for three terms. He also served as Secretary of the Treasury under President Richard Nixon and had various other advisory roles. Connally later resumed his law practice and ran for the Republican nomination for President in 1979.
