Advocating for Seminole Freedmen: A Letter to Representative James Jones, 1979-05-08

 File — Box: 59, Folder: 22
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_59_22_0021
Attorney William W. Dawson wrote a letter to Representative James Jones thanking him for the opportunity to discuss the Seminole Freedmen's right to a share in land settlement awards. Dawson and Hank Meyer argued before the United States District Court to have the Secretary of Interior's distribution plan deemed null and void. They are awaiting Judge Flannery's decision and will rely on Congress to develop a legislative plan for distribution if the plan is voided. Dawson informed the Seminole Freedmen of Jones' interest and appreciation for their cause. He offered his assistance to Jones and his staff in the matter.
