A public meeting was held in Ada, Oklahoma to discuss proposed revisions to Indian Health Service (IHS) eligibility regulations. Various stakeholders, including members of the Five Civilized Tribes, expressed concerns about including non-Indian spouses in the IHS program. Suggestions were made to prioritize services based on blood quantum and to refer non-Indians to the State Health Department for preventative services. There was opposition to the proposed changes, with concerns about increased workload on hospitals and dilution of services for Indian people. The Governor of the Chickasaw Nation opposed including non-Indian spouses in the program and expressed concerns about the impact on funding and services. Attendees were encouraged to submit comments and suggestions on the proposed revisions.
