The United Indian Tribes of Western Oklahoma and Kansas are requesting that a proposed Indian hospital be located in Shawnee, Oklahoma to serve a population of 20,794 Indian people from 27 tribes within a 50-100 mile radius. They are asking for support from Dr. Emory Johnson, Director of Indian Public Health Service, and for plans for a hospital in Ada, Oklahoma to be put on hold until further study and feasibility is conducted. The resolution was adopted unanimously at a meeting on July 27, 1974.
