Legal Rights of Tribal Allotments in Oklahoma, 1947-06-07

 Item — Box: 2, Folder: 24
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_2_24_0015
The letter is in response to Mr. Winslow's inquiry about the allotments of his deceased wife and children, who were members of the Choctaw Tribe of Indians. The letter states that if his wife did not leave a will and her original allotment has not been sold, he may inherit one-third of her estate under Oklahoma statute. The letter suggests Mr. Winslow discuss Carl Albert the matter with an attorney and contact Superintendent Roberts of the Five Civilized Tribes for assistance. The letter acknowledges that they cannot provide a full answer on his rights, as these are legal questions for the Oklahoma courts.
