Mrs. Pearl Dukes received a response from Carl Albert regarding the coal and asphalt lands issue. He mentioned that Tribal Officials and the Department of Interior are working on reaching an agreement. He also stated that there are no plans to extend leases for a long term, and a bill has been introduced to extend lease terms but will not be pushed until negotiations are completed. Albert assured Mrs. Dukes that he will ensure the rights of the Indians are protected in any decision made. He expressed appreciation for her letter and encouraged her to contact him at any time.
