Congressman Carl Albert announced his plans to seek the enactment of three bills in the field of Indian affairs in the next Congress. The first bill aims to extend restrictions on members of the Five Civilized Tribes. The second bill will reopen the right to file claims before the Indian Claims Commission. The third bill seeks to promote the rehabilitation of members of the Five Civilized Tribes and other Indians of eastern Oklahoma. Albert emphasized the urgency of passing the first bill before the restrictions expire in April 1956 to avoid confusion and hardships for Oklahoma Indians. He also highlighted the importance of finishing the job of resolving outstanding claims through the Indian Claims Commission. Additionally, Albert hopes to get favorable consideration for the 1951 Stigler Bill in the next Congress.
