Supporting Indian Education in Oklahoma: Boarding Schools, Orphanages, and Day Schools, 1956-01-01 - 1956-12-31

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 61
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_16_1_61_0025
The author is interested in Indian education and mentions three Indian boarding schools in their district - Wheelock, Carter, and Jones Academy. These schools provide education opportunities for young boys and girls of Indian descent, many of whom come from remote areas, are orphans, or come from broken homes. The author also mentions the Indian Goodland Orphanage in their district, which they have visited and received a photo of a girls' chorus. The author is grateful for the financial aid provided to the orphanage by the Federal government and praises the Presbyterian Church for their work among the Indian population in Oklahoma. Additionally, there are day schools operated by the Indian Bureau in the district for areas without State schools, and the Federal government provides tuition payments for Indian children attending local and State schools.
