Concerns Regarding Reappointment of Chief Harry J. W. Belvin, 1970-08-24

 Item — Box: 82, Folder: 39
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_82_39_0020
Will T. Nelson does not recommend Harry J. W. Belvin for reappointment as Chief of the Choctaw tribe. Congressman Albert's office acknowledges Nelson's letter and informs him that Chief Belvin has already been reappointed for a one-year term. Legislation is pending that would allow the tribes to elect their principal officer, and it is hoped that this will provide a more democratic process for choosing a chief in the future.
