The text is a news release from the Office of the Secretary regarding the budget for Indian programs in FY 1977. The total outlays are set at $1.05 billion, with a decrease in funding for the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. The budget includes new funding for the implementation of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Funds are also allocated for tribal grants, technical assistance, and tribal resource development. Funding for the Indian Loan Guaranty program is proposed to double. There are no funds allocated for education assistance provisions, and some construction activities have been reduced.
