The Talihina Indian Hospital in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, has been affected by budget cuts resulting in the loss of 23 employee positions. The cuts are part of a nationwide problem in Indian health services due to increased retirement deductions for civil service workers. The Choctaw Indians, who rely on the hospital as a major employer, are protesting the layoffs. Despite rumors of more layoffs, officials confirm that no further reductions are planned. Congressman Page Belcher has the best economy record among Oklahoma's House members, supporting 74% of economy moves. Congress, overall, has rejected more than half of its chances to save taxpayer money in 1957.
