 Item — Box: 30, Folder: 66
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_30_66_0004
The Department of the Interior has informed the Choctaw Indians that they will not be able to select their principal chief as originally planned. The department will withhold action until recommendations from interested parties are received. The current chief, Harry J.W. Belvin, is seeking reappointment, but the selection process has been delayed due to concerns about expenses and lack of current addresses for mailing ballots. The department assures that the selection will not be made hastily and all interested parties' wishes will be considered.
