The Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C. informed Hon. Carl Albert that federal funds cannot be used to establish a Choctaw Museum in the Old Tribal Council House. They mention that there are other museums that the Bureau has participated in, but they do not involve Indian tribes. The Bureau suggests that the Choctaw tribe should seek financial contributions from individuals or private institutions to establish the museum. They also mention that the same applies to the Chickasaws and their Council House in Tishomingo.
