Chief Claude Cox of the Creek Nation of Oklahoma is seeking support for a flood control project on the Deep Fork of the Canadian River. He believes that tribal governments should be recognized as full governments with the power to guarantee the health, safety, and welfare of their citizens. Cox is advocating for a comprehensive federal policy to enforce these guarantees and is seeking support from Congress for the project.
