Alvin Meek, a retired Civil Service worker, wrote to George B. Schwabe expressing his concern about the inadequate retirement benefits. Schwabe responded, stating that he will consider supporting legislation to increase benefits for former Civil Service employees. He also sent copies of two bills related to the issue for Meek's information. Schwabe acknowledged the financial challenges faced by retirees due to inflation and assured Meek that he would give the matter serious consideration.
