Item — Box: 27, Folder: 21
Identifier: CAC_CC_047_3_27_21_0014
Mrs. Stella R. Stevens writes to Congressman George B. Schwabe and Senator Harry F. Byrd expressing her concerns about the salaries and work ethic of federal employees. She provides examples of government offices where employees appear to be idle and suggests that they should be working on armament programs instead. She also criticizes Congress for regularly voting for salary increases for government employees without thoroughly studying the matter. Mrs. Stevens hopes for more support for a bill to reduce vacation time for government employees. Congressman Schwabe responds positively to her letter, thanking her for her input and sharing his own experiences visiting projects funded by Congress.
