Concerns Regarding the Venetia Reservation in Alaska, 1945-04-19

 Item — Box: 3, Folder: 27
Identifier: CAC_CC_047_1_3_27_0003
Delegate E. L. Bartlett is writing to Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes, expressing concerns about the Venetia reservation in Alaska. Bartlett believes that the reasons for creating the reservation, including protecting the livelihood of native residents from white trappers, are not valid. He argues that the fur sales from the area are minimal, there has not been a significant increase in white trappers, and the size of the reservation is excessive for the small population it serves. Bartlett requests an investigation to determine if the reservation is necessary.
