Identifier: CAC_CC_003_2_30_5_0007
The United Indian Tribes of Western Oklahoma and Kansas sent a letter to President Nixon on May 4, 1973, expressing their opposition to the Impact Aid Bill, which would reduce funding for Indian reservation schools. They requested the President to cancel the bill as it would negatively impact the education of Indian children. The letter included Resolution No. 17, adopted at a meeting on April 28, 1973, supporting the cancellation of the bill. The resolution highlighted the importance of the impact aid funds for Indian populated schools and urged the President to reconsider the proposed revisions to the bill. The letter was signed by Lee Motah, President of the United Indian Tribes of Western Oklahoma and Kansas.
