The Office of Indian Education Programs within the Bureau of Indian Affairs is responsible for providing educational opportunities to Indian youth and adults in Bureau, public, or private schools. The program aims to improve the quality of education for Indian children by setting goals for self-understanding, basic human skills, positive attitudes towards learning, and more. The program operates in 16 states and has a budget of $221 million for Fiscal Year 1975. The organization is structured with different divisions responsible for various functions such as professional relations and internal services. The program aims to create a positive image of the Bureau as an effective and dynamic educational agent and hopes to serve as a model for working with economically disadvantaged and culturally diverse groups.
