Troubles with CETA Program Funding: A Call for Action, 1976-03-03
Item — Box: 31, Folder: 20
Identifier: CAC_CC_003_2_31_20_0006
Senator Dewey F. Bartlett received a report from the Department of Labor regarding the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes' CEDA program. The report addressed concerns raised by Tribal Chairman Howard Goodbear. The Department of Labor acknowledged the tribes' unemployment issues but stated that additional funds were not available due to budget constraints. They encouraged the tribes to operate within their budget and suggested resolving administration problems to improve the program. The Department also stated that CETA funds must be used for CETA programs and cannot be allocated to non-reservation Indian tribes. The tribes were urged to work with the Department to address their concerns and improve their employment and training program.
