The Mayor of Lawton, Oklahoma, Wayne Gilley, sent a letter to Senator Dewey F. Bartlett expressing the city's opposition to the closing of the Fort Sill Indian School. The letter included a resolution passed by the City Council urging the Department of the Interior and Congress to take action to keep the school open. The resolution highlighted the school's history, the impact of its closure on the community, and the importance of providing education to Indian children.
