The Senate Subcommittee on Indian Affairs held field hearings in Muskogee and Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1975 to address the challenges faced by Indian Housing Authorities in providing adequate housing to tribal members. Testimony was given by various tribal members and housing authorities, highlighting issues such as the lack of specific guidelines, the need for an Indian Housing Handbook, establishment of an Indian Desk at HUD offices, reduction of paperwork, uniform rent schedules, funding for PILOT taxes, more technical assistance, individual audits, uniform pay-off schedules, and a review of criteria for housing program participation. Solutions were proposed to streamline procedures and improve the delivery system for Indian housing.
