HUD, Interior, and HEW agreed in 1969 to produce 30,000 new housing units for Native Americans by 1974. However, by 1972, only 12,094 units were ready, and a moratorium halted development. Efforts to allocate more units were made in 1974 and 1975, but there were delays and disputes over funding. The commitment to provide 30,000 units was not met on time, and only a portion of the allocated units had reached completion by 1975.
