Catharine Barrett, President of the National Education Association, provided testimony in support of the Indian Self-Determination and Educational Reform Act of 1973 before the Senate Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. The NEA supports the bill, which allows for maximum Indian input and control in education programs. They also provided suggestions for funding formulas and additional support for Alaska. The NEA estimates that the cost for the first year would be around $42 million.
