Emmett S. Oliver, Supervisor of Indian Education in Washington State, testified before a committee on the Indian Self-Determination and Educational Reform Act of 1973. He highlighted the Johnson-O'Malley Program in the state, which serves 5,900 Indian students in 42 public schools. Oliver emphasized the need for expanding educational services for Indian children and discussed the formation and purpose of regional consortia to represent Indian viewpoints and address educational needs. He also mentioned additional JOM educational activities outside of public schools that should be considered part of the program.
