Senator Dewey Bartlett received a letter from Secretary Patricia Roberts Harris informing him of the selection of Mr. Irvin Santiago as the Special Assistant for Indian and Alaska Native Programs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Senator Bartlett expressed his concern about the delivery of HUD programs to Native Americans and pledged his support to Mr. Santiago in improving the system. Secretary Harris explained the recruitment process and highlighted Mr. Santiago's qualifications and endorsements from Native American organizations. She expressed confidence in Mr. Santiago's ability to make a significant contribution to Indian and Alaska Native Programs and thanked Senator Bartlett for his support.
