Title: Grave Desecration Issue at Community Cemetery, 1963-01-01 - 1963-12-31
Item — Box: 44, Folder: 22
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_44_22_0007
Mrs. McCurtain brought up the issue of grave desecration in a community cemetery at a meeting of Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians. The Bureau of Indian Affairs checked into the matter and found that the land was deeded to the LeFlore County Commissioners in 1915. As the Bureau has no jurisdiction over the land, they have asked the County Commissioners to take action to address the situation. Representative Carl Albert is hopeful that the issue will be resolved satisfactorily and will provide updates as needed.
