Governor Henry Bellmon of Oklahoma announced plans to file a lawsuit to claim ownership of land that was once part of the Arkansas River bed but became dry land due to river stabilization projects. The state needs to establish title to the land to avoid refunding oil and gas lease money. Attorney General Charles Nesbitt requested funds for legal work and experts to testify in court. Failure to take action could result in the state losing valuable land to adjoining tracts.
