Carl Albert received a call from Larry Wheeler of the Congressional Liaison office of the Department of Interior informing him that Overton James has been reappointed as Governor of the Chickasaws. Dody Mux Dode McIntosh was also reappointed. Carl Albert advised Governor James of the reappointment over the phone while he was attending a meeting in San Francisco.
