Katherine Monroy is writing a letter about a lawsuit that threatens her family's restricted Indian land in Oklahoma. The lawsuit, brought by two non-Indian neighbors, seeks to claim ownership of fences on the property through adverse possession. One of the plaintiffs is the Chief of the Choctaw Nation, who is leasing land from white property owners and stands to benefit if the lawsuit is successful. Monroy is concerned about the implications of the lawsuit and believes it is unjust for non-Indians to profit from the loss of their land.
