David Gardner, a candidate for Choctaw Chief, criticized the age limit of 35 for candidates, calling it arbitrary and unfair. He argued that the limit was established to prevent younger candidates like himself from running for the position. Gardner's opponent, Harry J. W. Belvin, supported the age limit and believed that younger candidates were not mature enough to lead.
