A preliminary report on the Chilocco Indian School has recommended the removal of the school superintendent, Dr. Leon Wall, due to allegations of criminal malpractice. The report, printed in the Congressional Record, is only the first phase of an investigation into the school, which serves over 1,000 students from 23 states. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is conducting the investigation and plans to obtain further comments and investigate additional allegations of brutality and mistreatment at the school. Senator Henry Bellmon expressed confidence that steps will be taken to address the issues at Chilocco and modernize the Indian education program.
