Mrs. C. O. Phillips is seeking information about her great grandfather, Lige Williams, who was a Cherokee Indian. She reached out to Congressman Page Belcher for help in finding out if her great grandfather was listed on the Indian rolls. Congressman Belcher forwarded her inquiry to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, who suggested she contact the Muskogee Area Office for more information. The Bureau of Indian Affairs informed Congressman Belcher that there is no authority to add names to the approved roll of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Congressman Belcher promised to provide Mrs. Phillips with any information he receives.
