Concern Regarding Needy Indian Children in Perry, Oklahoma, 1959-01-01 - 1959-12-31

 Item — Box: 45, Folder: 8c
Identifier: CAC_CC_004_5_45_8C_0006
Mrs. Clarence E. Gosney of Perry, Oklahoma wrote to the Bureau of Indian Affairs expressing concern about needy Indian children being unable to afford school lunches and supplies, potentially leading them to quit school. The Bureau investigated the matter and found that the school in question was adequately meeting the needs of Indian children, with most receiving free lunches or working for their meals. There was no evidence of children being asked to quit school due to financial reasons. The Bureau assured Mrs. Gosney and Hon. Page Belcher that they would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
