The Bureau of Indian Affairs has awarded the Peoria Indian Tribe of Oklahoma $2.7 million in Indian Claims Commission judgments for land ceded in Indiana in the 1800s. The funds have been on deposit since 1971 and will be distributed to eligible individuals through the Treasury Department's regional disbursing office in Denver. Checks will be mailed directly to recipients, with shares for minors being held in trust.
