 Item — Box: 77, Folder: 16a
Identifier: CAC_CC_004_7_77_16A_0003
Mrs. Harry B. Burt of Tulsa, Oklahoma wrote a letter to Page Belcher, a Member of Congress, about the St. Labre Indian Mission School in Ashland, Montana. The Bureau of Indian Affairs provided information on the programs available to assist the Northern Cheyenne Reservation community, including education, employment assistance, health care, and public assistance. Despite efforts to address poverty and unemployment, challenges remain due to the underdeveloped economic situation on the reservation. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is working on vocational training programs, tribal enterprise development, and encouraging private industry to provide employment opportunities. Additionally, public assistance programs and food commodity distribution are available to support needy individuals on the reservation.
