The Speaker wrote to the Chairman of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma regarding the release of public housing funds for additional units in Indian areas. The Department of Housing and Urban Development authorized processing of 4,000 additional units, with a commitment to fund the balance of the five-year commitment. The Speaker expressed support for the Indian Housing Program and urged the Secretary of HUD to release the impounded funds for housing construction.
