The United Indian Tribes of Western Oklahoma and Kansas approved recommendations in 1974 to establish an Indian Affairs Committee within the Domestic Council, support legislation for the economic, social, and cultural interests of Indian tribes, and seek assistance in various areas such as taxation, housing, employment training, and funding relationships with federal agencies. They also called for increased funding for tribal programs and resistance to any efforts to remove Indian Affairs from relevant committees.
