Ms. Theresa Kelley wrote a letter to Senator Fred Harris expressing her interest in teaching Indian children. Senator Harris contacted the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs on her behalf and received a response stating that all teacher positions for the 1971-72 school year had been filled. The Bureau suggested contacting organizations doing volunteer work on reservations for teaching opportunities. Kelley had also applied to public schools near Indian reservations.
