Title: Correspondence Regarding Creek National Council and Indian Affairs, 1945-01-01 - 1946-12-31

 Item — Box: 3, Folder: 26
Identifier: CAC_CC_047_1_3_26_0007
The letter is a response from the Secretary of the Interior, Harold L. Ickes, to Mr. C. W. Ward regarding a resolution passed by the "Creek National Council" requesting a per capita distribution of Creek tribal funds. The Department does not recognize the Council as having authority to speak for the Creek Tribe, and instead recognizes the Principal Chief, Mr. Roly Canard, as the representative of the Creek Nation. The letter also discusses the Act of 1906 and the authority vested in Mr. Canard to speak on behalf of the Creek Nation. Additionally, there is a memo encouraging Congressman Schwabe to support the act of 1901-1906, known as the allotment agreement between the Creek Tribe and the Secretary of the Interior.
