Mrs. Bette Lou Vandever Hughes sent a telegram to George B. Schwabe suggesting that the House follow the lead of the Senate on the Byrd Amendment and take immediate drastic action on the railroad strike. Schwabe responded that he is doing everything he can to protect the public from labor racketeers and the current administration, which he believes is responsible for the economic crisis. He also mentioned staying on the job in Washington, D.C., instead of focusing on political campaigns like other Congressmen.
