Urgent Request for Subsidy Payment for Lead and Zinc Mines in Tri-State District, 1946-06-30
Item — Box: 6, Folder: Unknown
Identifier: CAC_CC_047_1_6_16_0020
George B. Schwabe, a member of Congress, received a letter from the Chairman of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation stating that payments for premiums on copper, lead, and zinc would be retroactive to June 30, 1946. Schwabe had previously communicated with the Quapaw Indian Council regarding the importance of these payments for mining operations in the Tri-State District. He had also expressed doubts about the passing of any legislation until the fate of the OPA bill was determined. Schwabe urged immediate passage of legislation for subsidy payments to prevent a shutdown of mining operations on Quapaw Indian allotments.
