Senator James Abourezk is advocating for the establishment of the American Indian Policy Review Commission through S. J. Res. 133. He believes that past policies towards Native Americans have been inadequate and have led to despair and frustration. The Commission would review treaties, statutes, and government structures related to Native Americans to improve services and protect natural resources. The Commission would also make recommendations to Congress for meaningful approaches to fulfill the needs of Native American people. Abourezk is seeking input from the Administration and private witnesses on this proposed legislation. 'Indian Reorganization Act; Menominee Restoration Act; Meriam Report.
