Tribes in Oklahoma to Receive $900,000 in Aid for Head Start Programs, 1976-05-05

Senator Henry Bellmon announced that Oklahoma Indian tribes will be receiving an additional $900,000 for Head Start and Early Childhood Development programs. This funding was approved by the Health, Education, and Welfare Department after Bellmon complained to Secretary Joseph Califano. The extra money is intended to upgrade education and reduce unemployment among tribe members. The regulations for Headstart grants administration were also revised to establish requirements for the administration of these programs.
