 Item — Box: 32, Folder: 9
Identifier: CAC_CC_003_2_32_9_0056
Senator Dewey F. Bartlett received a letter from Dr. Emery A. Johnson informing him that assistance was provided to Mr. Ralph Leland Dru for his education. Senator Bartlett thanked Dr. Johnson for his help and offered his assistance in return. Mr. Dru had previously contacted Senator Bartlett for scholarship funding for medical school, and the matter was forwarded to the Indian Health Service for consideration. Dr. Johnson confirmed that Mr. Dru was being funded through another mechanism for the current year and they were exploring options for funding his repeated year of medical school. Mr. Dru, a Cheyenne Indian, expressed his desire to become an Indian physician and requested reconsideration of his scholarship cancellation. He had signed a contract with the Public Health Service Scholarship Program agreeing to certain terms for financial assistance for his medical education.
