1946 Correspondence on the Progress of the Rivers and Harbors Bill in Congress, 1946-05-20

The document is a letter from George B. Schwabe, a Member of Congress, to John D. Mayo, Chairman of the Arkansas Basin Development Association, regarding the Rivers and Harbors Bill coming before the Rules Committee for calendar clearance. Schwabe mentions that the bill has not yet been acted upon by the Rules Committee but is expected to be given the O.K. soon. He explains that primary elections and other interferences have slowed down progress in Congress but assures Mayo that he will continue to work towards bringing the bill up for consideration at the earliest possible date. Mayo had previously sent a telegram urging Schwabe to talk to Republican members of the Rules Committee to clear the bill for immediate consideration.
