Correspondence between Congressman Schwabe and Constituent Frank O. Reisinger Regarding Proposed Changes to Immigration Laws, 1946, 1946-10-14
Frank O. Reisinger wrote a letter to Congressman George B. Schwabe expressing his opposition to the President's proposed change in immigration laws to allow a large number of European Displaced Persons to enter the United States. Reisinger believes that this mass immigration would have negative economic and social consequences for the country. He argues that the priority should be helping Americans in need first, and that the influx of displaced persons would only worsen existing economic problems such as housing and schooling issues. Reisinger urges Congress to reconsider the proposed change and stick to the quota system for immigration. A. L. Warren, secretary to Congressman Schwabe, responded to Reisinger's letter, assuring him that the Congressman values the opinions of constituents on public issues.
